Today is world Tuberculosis, TB, Day.
Let us join hands to help eliminate the scourge of tuberculosis in Nigeria, African and the whole world as we join the rest of the world in marking the world tuberculosis day today, 24th of March 2016.
Basic TB Facts
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but TB bacteria can attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal.
TB is spread through the air from one person to another. The TB bacteria are put into the air when a person with TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. People nearby may breathe in these bacteria and become infected.
TB is NOT spread by
- shaking someone’s hand
- sharing food or drink
- touching bed linens or toilet seats
- sharing toothbrushes
Not everyone infected with TB bacteria becomes sick. As a result, two TB-related conditions exist: latent TB infection and TB disease.
TB bacteria can live in the body without making you sick. This is called latent TB infection. In most people who breathe in TB bacteria and become infected, the body is able to fight the bacteria to stop them from growing. People with latent TB infection do not feel sick and do not have any symptoms. People with latent TB infection are not infectious and cannot spread TB bacteria to others. However, if TB bacteria become active in the body and multiply, the person will go from having latent TB infection to being sick with TB disease.
TB bacteria become active if the immune system can’t stop them from growing. When TB bacteria are active (multiplying in your body), this is called TB disease. People with TB disease are sick. They may also be able to spread the bacteria to people they spend time with every day.
Many people who have latent TB infection never develop TB disease. Some people develop TB disease soon after becoming infected (within weeks) before their immune system can fight the TB bacteria. Other people may get sick years later when their immune system becomes weak for another reason.
For people whose immune systems are weak, especially those with HIV infection, the risk of developing TB disease is much higher than for people with normal immune systems.
FUNTAJ INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CELEBRATES 2016 GLOBAL MONEY WEEK WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD!!
Funtaj SAGE teams took a tour to the Central Bank of Nigeria Money Museum. The visit is one of the exciting educational events and financial awareness-raising activities for the young people organized by SAGE Nigeria in Abuja to commemorate the 2016 Global Money Week.
The goal of the visit to the Central Bank of Nigeria Money Museum is to teach children and youth about money, saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment and becoming an entrepreneur through fun and interactive activities. Every year, entire communities take action to create awareness, challenge out of date financial policies and give young people the tools and inspiration they need to shape their own future.
The Child & Youth Finance International (CYFI) leads the Child and Youth Finance Movement’s worldwide multi-sectoral network, which is dedicated to enhancing the financial capabilities of children and youth. This involves giving all children and youth the knowledge to make wise financial decisions, the opportunity to accumulate savings, and the skills to find employment, start a business and ultimately break the cycle of poverty.
CYFI has taken on the challenge of reshaping financial systems and making sure everyone helps children and youth to become economically empowered citizens.
Their goal is to facilitate financial inclusion and economic citizenship education for children and youth worldwide.
The Global Money Week is about creating collaborative partnerships and highlighting the importance of financial inclusion of youth worldwide
‘Take Part. Save Smart’, the 2016 theme for GMW combines three core messages: Save Money, Save Knowledge, and Save for Career. Starting from 14 – 20 March, the week is filled with exciting educational events and financial awareness-raising activities for the young.
SAGE an acronym for Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship is an international programme initiated at the California State University Chico USA. It is currently operating in all the continents of the world. The SAGE mission is to help create the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders whose innovations and social enterprises address the major unmet needs of our global community.
It engages young people in a hands-on learning process on how to create wealth, help others and their communities. At the end of every SAGE year between May and July, SAGE businesses, environmental and community service projects are showcased in a “tournament” which recognizes outstanding SAGE teams based on their effectiveness and creativity. Best SAGE teams advance in the tournament that climaxes at the international competition tagged -SAGE World Cup. SAGE World Cup offers the world an annual event that facilitates multi-cultural integration and global business networking opportunities.
The 2016 SAGE World Cup will be taking place in Philippines in August and FUNTAJ INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SAGE Team will be taking the lead in this year’s world cup. The children have started the process by initiating project Light Up Naija, an initiative aimed at eradicating the use of kerosene lamps that are unfriendly to the environment and harmful to the health. They aim at achieving this by raising funds in millions to purchase large quantities of solar powered lamps that are to be distributed free to students in rural areas around the FCT for a start and Nigeria as a whole.
